TWCA qualified cultivars can use up to 40% less water while still maintaining a green and healthy surface for people to enjoy. Maintaining green turfgrass while using less water benefits the environments ecosystems, cools the temperature and boosts mental and emotional health.

TWCA's approach to conservation relies on 3rd party peer review data to qualify turfgrasses that demonstrate statistically significant water savings over conventional varieties. Researchers across North America collaborate with TWCA eliminates confounding factors such as soil type, heat, and pest management from the results.
Digital Image Analysis
DIA photography is used to analyze the percent green color in each plot by capturing RGB percentages. As plots go through drought stress, the photos reveal the most resilient varieties. The trial runs until all plots are below 25% green cover, the data is then analyzed and given to the TWCA research committee to determine which varieties qualify.
